As her best friend Roger disappear along with many other children taken away by the mysterious Gobblers, the 11 year old orphan Lyra decide to save him. She soon untertakes a tremendous adventure heading North, discovering in the process that she has unexpected abilities and a hidden past and meeting new friends and foes from very different backgrounds.
