Sraffies on the web...

The word sraffies first appeared in 2003 on the pages of BridgeToTheStars's forum boards. Based on the word used by Mulefas to describe Dust, it refers to the His Dark Materials fandom.

With the soaring interest boosted by the new TV series and publishing of new books by Philip Pullman set in Lyra's world, the sraffies community had a new growth over the last few years on the web and social networks. We tried to give you here a few insights of the fine place to visit to dive deeper in Lyra's world, among other addict readers or watchers.

As a reminder, official websites related to the author, the series, the stageplays, books and graphic novels are mentionned on the associated pages of our website. Here's it's only about fandom!

Here come a few international websites, new and old, dedicated to Philip Pullman's books and their adaptations:
  • BridgeToTheStars.net, aka BTTS, probably the first of all websites devoted to the books, created in 2001. It remains a treasure trove for documents related to the movie, the stageplays- a great website and the home of long-time friends.
  • Compounding His Dark Materials: created in 2019 by Laurie Frost, the late author of The Elements of His Dark Materials (aka The Definitive Guide to His Dark Materials, this website displays post related to themes from the Pullman universes and their real-world counterparts. If the original blog is now disabled, it is still accessible through The Internet Archive.
  • HisDarkMaterials.de: a German website created back in 2003, It is one of the oldest pillars of the sraffy world.
  • HisDarkMaterials.ru: Russian website related to the books and series.
  • The Aurora: if you're looking for RPG in the HDM universe, this is the place you need to visit!
  • Lo the lynx: a blog providing detailed and structued anaylysis of series' and books' aspects such as colonialism or feminism. Published in English
  • Cittàgazze: you're already on our pages so may know the place a bit: we've been the continuous home of the French community since 2002 and we're glad that you are here with us. Do not forget that most of our pages are available (or will be someday available) in English by simply clicking on the UK flag en the top left of the page. Enjoy your visit!
